Blog - BGE "Wires Down" Video Challenge - Electric Safety Education - with a chance to win

David Milton – Director, Advertising and Marketing

David Milton.jpgAs teachers, parents and students are preparing for a challenging and exciting school year ahead, at BGE, we’ve spent our summer planning a fun and exciting program for K-5 students to learn more about  electric safety.

Through literature, our website and school visits, BGE has made it a priority to encourage children to be safe when near BGE equipment and to never touch a downed wire.  Many of our customers remember our “Wires Down” commercial, which featured a group of children singing a catchy safety jingle. We recently re-released the commercial online   to make it available to a new generation of BGE customers.  As part of the commercial’s revival, we’ve also built in an exciting online educational component as well as an opportunity for schools to enter for a chanceWiresDownlogo.jpg to win up to $10,000 to be used for a school enrichment project.

From September 17 to November 30, 2012, public and private elementary
schools that are within BGE’s electric service territory are invited to create their own version of our original Wires Down commercial and upload them to our website as part of our “Wires Down Video Challenge.”  Public voting will be open from December 3 – 14, and then a panel of judges will select final winning entries from the top rated videos based on a number of factors including creativity and overall effectiveness.

So, whether you’re a student, parent, teacher or volunteer at your local elementary school, make sure you spread the word and share this information about the BGE Video Challenge with your school.   For complete contest details, visit BGEVideoChallenge.com. We look forward to receiving your school’s entry.  In the meantime, have a safe and rewarding school year.
