Blog - Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service Ties into BGE's Core Value

Melissa Cheek, Corporate Social Responsibility Specialist

MelissaCheeks.jpgCommunity service is an important core value for BGE and the rest of our Exelon family.  While BGE contributes resources to many charities and worthwhile causes, quite often, employees from across the company also find ways to give selflessly to show compassion and pride for their communities.

This Martin Luther King Day of Service, employees and their families will once again volunteer at several nonprofits to honor the spirit of Dr. King’s legacy. As we organize and join forces with other groups  at various locations, we’re reminded that this is an oportunity to strengthen communities, build bridges and create solutions to social challenges.

Across our central Maryland service territory are countless opportunities to serve. From joining neighborhood clean ups to providing assistance to veterans, interested volunteers can log onto the Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service website to find a community project to support. Among several projects, BGE volunteers will be working with Moveable Feast to assemble and deliver meals to program recipients; assisting with a community cleanup project in the Oliver neighborhood in Baltimore City and the helping the Salvation Army to pack and organize items for disaster relief victims.

As the Martin Luther King Day of ServiceMoveableFeast.JPG approaches, we encourage you to join the hundreds of thousands of people who see this holiday as a day “on” rather than a day “off” and contribute a portion of your time to help make positive differences in our communities.
