Your energy service is divided into two parts; the supply portion that covers the cost of the gas and/or electricity itself, and the delivery portion that transports the energy safely and reliably to your home.
The delivery portion is a regulated service—that means you have one company (BGE) that will deliver your gas and/or electricity. Because BGE is the only company that delivers energy to its central Maryland service area, its costs and its policies are regulated by the Maryland Public Service Commission (PSC).
The supply portion is quite another story. This is not a regulated service, and energy suppliers that are licensed by the Maryland Public Service Commission and registered with BGE can compete for your business. This means you can choose an energy supplier—and even shop for the best energy rates and terms—if you wish. Here’s a rundown of your choices for energy supply. Click on the link for more information.
