BGE's Limited Income Vision: "Someday all of our customers will have the necessary resources to meet their home energy needs."

 
BGE is committed to providing continual support through our Limited Income Strategy which:
  • Acknowledges all of the challenges that lead customers into crisis and prevent  them from fully meeting their obligations ;
  • Addresses challenges facing our customers to the extent we have the resources and capabilities;
  • Partners  with outside stakeholders on  issues beyond our core competencies; and
  • Embraces BGE's obligation to be a leader in seeking solutions.​
 
BGE’s Limited Income Strategy is designed to help vulnerable households meet their utility bill obligations by:
 
Increasing assistance access rates:
  • More communication and outreach
  • Develop external partnerships
  • Better use of technology
 
Joining energy assistance with conservation measures:
  • BGE’s EmPOWER Maryland programs are helping thousands conserve energy;
  • Our Limited Income Energy Efficiency Program targets those eligible for state assistance;
  • The BGE Heating System Fund is replacing hundreds of obsolete furnaces and boilers with energy-efficient systems
 
Adopting a stronger public advocacy stance:
  • Advocate for more, and more effective assistance
  • Join with Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC), Child Care Tax Credit campaigns
  • Support asset-building, financial literacy
 
Working with providers to improve operations:
  • Image processing technical guidance
  • Application intake processing consulting
  • Recruitment of volunteers for energy offices
  • Advocating “One-Stop Shop” environment
 



Last winter, the Fuel Fund of Maryland helped more than 11,000 children stay safe and warm by providing resources to keep the lights and heat on in their homes.
