BGE  recognizes the importance of supplier diversity in all aspects of our business and procurement practices. Through supplier diversity and business development, we are committed to the development, utilization and growth of diverse suppliers, including minority-owned, women-owned, veteran-owned, service disabled veteran-owned and HUBZone-located businesses.

BGE’s Supplier Diversity Program provides purchasing opportunities for minority-owned, women-owned, veteran-owned and service disabled veteran-owned business desc_of_program.jpgenterprises (MWBEs). Our staff is dedicated to identifying qualified diverse firms that offer high-quality, cost-competitive goods and services, and matching them with the needs of the company.

It is BGE’s goal that minority, women-owned, service disabled veteran-owned, and small business concerns shall have the maximum opportunity to participate in contract opportunities.

The Supplier Diversity Program actively seeks diverse suppliers through trade shows, advertising in local and national media, and working with business and advocacy groups. BGE is an active corporate member of several organizations that are dedicated to fostering minority business development, including the Maryland/District of Columbia Minority Supplier Development Council, and the Edison Electric Institute Supplier Diversity Committee. BGE purchases thousands of goods and services annually.

2nd Tier Program

Due to the nature of the utility business, many procurement opportunities may limit participation by small businesses. BGE is developing its 2nd Tier Spend Program as a means of increasing the opportunities available to MWBE's in our business and to  ensure a diverse supplier pool across the supply chain. We believe these efforts will stimulate the local economy by creating jobs.

What is 2nd Tier spend?
2nd Tier spend consists of payments made from a prime supplier to a diverse business for the purchase of product or services used directly in support of a contract with BGE.

Expectations of Primary Suppliers
It is the policy of BGE that Minority Business Enterprises (MBEs) and Women Business Enterprises (WBEs) have full opportunity to compete for subcontracts. The contractor agrees to use its best efforts to carry out this policy to the fullest extent consistent with the efficient performance of this contract. BGE strongly encourages the participation of MBEs and WBEs as subcontractors on this work.
