Storm Safety
Prepare for a storm before it hits

The best way to keep your family safe during a storm is to be prepared. A severe impact storm, like a hurricane, may strike without much warning, causing prolonged power outages. That's why it's important to be prepared by planning ahead before a storm hits. This includes preparing your home, and stocking up on emergency supplies. • Ensure that all family members know about your emergency storm safety plan and the location of emergency supplies.
  • Include in the emergency plan provisions for family members with special medical needs, especially those on life support equipment and vital medications.
  • Secure loose objects outside your home that may become flying objects during high winds.
  • Have fire safety equipment such as a fire extinguisher and baking soda available.
  • If you lose power, keep refrigerator and freezer doors closed.
