Starting and Stopping Service
When you first request gas or electric service from BGE, we will accept either a written or verbal application. In some cases, additional documentation may be required.

As with starting service, we will accept either written or verbal contact to stop service. Regardless of whether you have multiple services or just on service billing, it is important to contact BGE to assure your responsibility for billing is stopped at the appropriate time.

Service Application Charge
Your BGE service application charge is a non-refundable, one-time fee that covers initial administrative start-up costs for gas or electric service. The amount of this charge is determined by your particular rate schedule. When you transfer service from one address to another, a service application charge is also assessed.

Security Deposit
In some cases, we will require a security deposit to open or maintain an account. Your security deposit plus earned interest is refunded to you after four years of service, provided good payment practices have been established. The deposit earns simple interest at the rate prescribed by the Maryland Public Service Commission. BGE never requires a deposit based on a customer's neighborhood, race, sex, creed, age, or national origin.
