Gas Appliance Flexible Connector
BGE is alerting all of its natural gas customers to a possible safety hazard involving customers' older brass flexible gas connectors and home appliances.
Warning -- Possible Flexible Connector Safety Hazard Report gas leaks immediately
Gas can enter your building through walls even if you are not supplied with gas. Natural gas is colorless, tasteless, and odorless. We add an unpleasant odor to the gas so you will know if natural gas is escaping. We will gladly send you a scratch-and-sniff sample of the odor.
If you smell a gas leak
If you smell gas, leave your home immediately and call BGE from the nearest telephone. Even homes that don’t use gas could experience gas leaks coming through walls from the outside. Your call for emergency gas service will be answered 24 hours a day, seven days a week. A service person will come to your home free of charge. Remember, if you smell gas, leave your home first, THEN call.
410-685-0123 or 1-800-685-0123.
(Natural gas has a rotten egg odor).
Meter Safety
To assure uninterrupted gas service, please keep your outside gas meter and attached equipment clear of ice buildup and snow. Check the meter on a regular basis and gently clear away any ice buildup or snow.
You should use a broom to gently clear the meter. Please do not use a shovel to remove the ice and snow buildup or try to melt or chip the ice. That could damage or break the meter. Also, remove icicles from the roof or gutters that hang over the meter. The water dripping on the meter or attached equipment can freeze and cover it. If the meter becomes encased with ice, please call BGE at 410-685-0123 for assistance in solving this problem.
