Are TOU rates right for your business?
As a business customer, you have concerns about running your company as cost-effectively as possible. With Time-of-Use rates, there may be an opportunity to save money on your electric bill all year.
How does it work?
TOU rates are based on how much energy you use and when you use it. Your rate will vary according to the time of day or night, the day of the week, and the season of the year.
Think about the time of day when you use energy the most. Summer or winter, most of the low-rate time periods (as shown in the charts below) are nights and weekends.Your ability to reduce your bill depends on a number of factors, such as the type of business you have and how much of your energy usage you can shift to a lower-cost period or spread over a 24-hour period. For example, a 24-hour convenience store or gas station are usually good candidates for TOU because their energy usage can be spread across the mid and off-peak hours.
If you purchase your electricity from a supplier other than BGE, BGE’s generation and transmission.Time-of-Use rates do not apply. Please check with your supplier for their rates. You may be able to obtain TOU rates from another supplier.
