BGE partnered with Baltimore County to support it's Growing Home Campaign donating $25,000 to the innovative residential tree planting program in 2006. The campaign, part of the county's Green Renaissance initiative, focuses on increasing much needed urban tree canopy in existing Baltimore County communities. Piloted in the spring of 2006 through the Department of Environmental Protection and Resource Management, it also received funding from a Chesapeake Bay Program grant.
The Growing Home Campaign is designed to encourage homeowners to buy and plant trees on their property. The campaign educates homeowners about the benefits of planting trees for personal and community enjoyment, as well as the positive environmental impact they provide. The campaign also offers an incentive to act giving homeowners a $10 coupon toward the purchase of a tree which costs $25 or more.
