Glossary of Job Status Terms
Job Initiation This status point indicates the original creation of the job order. In this stage, set up information is entered into the job record based on information submitted on your service application. This includes job address, billing address, and type of installation. In addition, gas and/or electric load information is entered at this time. This information helps us determine the correct service and mains needed to support the customer demand. It is critical that the service application has complete and accurate information. Inaccurate or incomplete information may cause delays in your project. Where applicable, pre-engineering, preliminary Right of Way checks and job pricing is performed in this stage. Where an extension relocation contract is applicable, the job will remain at this stage until a signed contract and down payment has been received. For additional information, refer to our Customer information manuals:

Job Design and Planning In this stage, your project has been successfully processed through Job Initiation. Your project is assigned to a BGE Designer who will contact the customer to obtain any additional information and provide you the WMS job number. The Designer prepares a construction drawing, determines material requirements and identifies tasks to be performed. Right-of-Way issues are investigated and permit requirements are identified. The Designer mails the final construction drawing to the customer for signature along with a balance due letter. The job package is forwarded to our Coordination & Support Unit where the complete construction job package will be assembled. The job is held here until all prerequisites are satisfied i.e. permits are received, right of way issues are satisfied, payment has been received, and the customer has informed us that the site is ready for us to begin installation. The job the moves to the next status point - Job Scheduling.
Job Scheduling Indicates a job ready to be built. The job package is forwarded to our Planning & Scheduling Unit. The job requirements are reviewed to determine the type of crews, type of vehicles and equipment, and high voltage switching requirements. Where applicable, an inspector will visit the job site to verify site conditions are suitable for us to begin work. The inspector will identify areas to stage material and discuss access issues with on site customer representatives to avoid delays and coordinate our work with the work of other trades on site. The Planning & Scheduling Unit reviews the current work assignments of our construction forces and determines the next available crew. An estimated start date is entered in our WMS system along with the tentative completion date, and the job package is forwarded to the field construction unit(s). The status point moves to 'Field Construction Started.'
Field Construction Started The construction unit has received the job package. The start date is estimated based on the anticipated completion date of the previous job for the assigned crew. Delays in their present job assignment may result in the job starting later. As in all construction, there are many factors which may delay the completion of a project. When possible we will take appropriate steps to accelerate the job to meet the completion date. Before physical construction begins, Miss Utility Notifications are made, State and County agencies are notified of any work to be performed along their roadways, and material is delivered to the site. BGE crews or our certified contractors will install all necessary infrastructure and prepare the installation to be made active. Energizing the high voltage supply to our transformers will require high voltage switching and often impacts service to existing customers. These planned interruptions have to be scheduled with the concurrence of our customers and may be difficult to arrange - especially during severe weather conditions. Your premise can be made active once electrical and or plumbing inspection certificates are received by BGE from the applicable county agency.

Job Pending - Awaiting Release When the web application indicates 'meter' in the Job Type description, the job is specifically for a meter installation and is dependent on receipt of an inspection certificate before the installation can be made active.
The 'status' descriptions provided in the Work Management System Job Status Web application are explained below. A separate job is issued for installation of meters. The status point descriptions for meter jobs differ from those for services and installation of mains. See the section on 'Meters' at the end of this glossary for further information.
Job Completed This status point indicates field construction has been completed. The job can progress to this status although some site restoration and material pickup may still be pending. These activities may take several weeks to complete.
