Are TOU rates right for your business?
For customers who have monthly demand less than 60 kW and a consumption of 2,000 kWh or more in any month.
As a business customer, you are naturally concerned about running your company as cost-effectively as possible. But there may be a chance to save money on your electric bill throughout the entire year with Time-of-Use-rates.
How does it work?
TOU rates are based on the amount of energy you use and when you use it. Your rate will vary according to the time of day or night, day of the week, and season of the year.
Think about the time of day you use the most energy, or season of the year. Summer? Winter? Most of the low-rate periods (as shown in the charts below) are nights and weekends.
Your ability to reduce your bill depends on a number of factors, such as the type of business you operate and the amount of energy you use that can be shifted to a lower-cost period or spread over a 24-hour timeframe. A 24-hour convenience store or gas station is usually a good candidate for TOU because their energy use can be spread across mid and off-peak hours.
If you purchase your electricity from a supplier other than BGE, BGE’s generation and transmission Time-of-Use rates do not apply. Please check with your supplier for their rates. You may be able to obtain TOU rates from another supplier.
Call 800.685.0123 to find out more information and determine if Time-of-Use rates will benefit your bottom line.
Low-cost rates are also in effect all hours on Saturday and Sunday, and on the following holidays: New Year’s Day, President’s Day, Good Friday, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas and Mondays following any of those holidays that fall on a Sunday.
The non-Summer time periods shown above will begin and end one hour later for the period between the second Sunday in March and the first Sunday in April, and for the period between the last Sunday in October and the first Sunday in November.
To help cover higher meter and billing costs, the customer charge for Time-of-Use rates is $17.50/month. All rates are subject to change.
TOU prices include generation and transmission charges. Prices above (where?)do not include a delivery service charge of 2.324¢ / kWh, Rider 8-Energy Costs Adjustment, Rider 10-Administrative Cost Adjustment and Rider 25 – Monthly Rate Adjustment.
Once they enroll in the program, a customer is obligated to stay in it for one year. But, after one year, the customer determines the program is not meeting their energy management needs, they can return to standard service.
