Overview

BGE's electric customers can receive financial incentives through demand response programs by reducing their electric consumption during peak power periods. BGE's Demand Response Programs are available to all electric customers within the BGE service territory, regardless of their electricity supplier. Customers do not have to purchase electric energy from BGE or from any affiliate to be eligible for this program.

How it Works

Energy curtailment is a successful way for the system operator, PJM, to reduce electric loads during periods of peak demand. Customers can reduce their load by:
  • Changing their operations (move work to a night shift)
  • Shutting equipment down
  • Adjusting their lighting load
  • Adjusting their HVAC loads
  • Operating their on-site generator (s)
  • Or, any combination of the above

  •

Available Programs

BGE's electric customers can participate in a voluntary Energy Reduction Program or a mandatory Capacity Reduction Program, or both.
