 Energy Program

Customers who notify BGE and reduce loads during times of high prices receive credit for the energy not used. The customer determines when, for how long and how often he drops load. The credits are based on the real-time price of electricity, the customer's retail price of energy, and the amount of load reduction. Typically, the credits are paid to the customer within three billing cycles of the activation.

How It Works The Savings Eligibility
Energy Load Response Program Load response is voluntary. You decide when to initiate a load curtailment under a pre-established notification protocol.
Receive 80% of the market value of energy for the load reductions. All customers, regardless of their electric supplier, with interval metering sufficient to measure the load reduction.

If the customer is unable to reduce his loads, nothing happens - the energy credits are calculated only when the customer notifies BGE and reduces his load. Under the energy program, the customer is never charged or penalized for not reducing load.

Customer requirements:

  • Ability to drop 100 kW or more of load
  • An interval meter that can measure electric consumption in at least one hour increments
