What information is required to research a transmission site?
What is a CKT number?
”CKT” stands for “circuit” and it identifies the transmission line that runs from one substation to the next.
What is the difference between a Safety Watchman and a Safety Escort and when are they required?
A BGE Safety Watchman must be present in any of the following scenarios: work being performed on a transmission R.O.W., an equipment delivery to a transmission R.O.W. requiring the need of a boom truck or heavy equipment; when a BGE approved vendor has been granted approval to climb a transmission structure or a communications tower. A BGE Safety Escort is required to gain access to any secured BGE facility such as a substation or service center.
How do I arrange for a Safety Watchman?
For sites currently under construction or in the planning stages, your Construction Specialist will schedule a Safety Watchman as required. For more information, please print out the Safety Watchman Process from our Downloadable Process and Guideline Documents page.
How do I arrange for a Safety Escort?
Please call the Exelon Security Operations Center (ESOC) as listed on the “Contact Us” page. For more information, please print out the Escort Process from our Downloadable Process and Guideline Documents page.
Should I file for an electric service application on a BGE site?

What is the process for a site upgrade and who should I contact?

How can I become an approved vendor with BGE LightSpeed Communications?
BGE typically solicits new vendors when the need arises through a Request for Proposal (RFP) process; however, if you are interested in learning more, please contact the Manager as listed on the “Contact Us” page.
Does BGE allow collocations on wooden distribution poles?
This is allowed under certain circumstances but is not handled by LightSpeed Communications. For more information about such opportunities and the required applications and processes, please call 1-410-470-6719
How long can I expect a site to take from inquiry through construction?
This depends on the type of structure for which an Application is submitted (i.e. Communications or Transmission structure), and other variables such as outage availability, type of installation, zoning requirements, etc. Naturally, the timeline on a Communications Structure is not dependent on outages and can be completed as soon as all deliverables from the customer are received. For transmission structures, the timeline can be longer for items such as outages, etc. The projected timelines for each site vary and are discussed at the Site Walk which occurs after an Application and Fees are received.
Who should I call if have an issue accessing an existing site?
