BALTIMORE (April 1, 2019) – BGE is now accepting applications from eligible non-profits for grants of up to $10,000 to support environmental stewardship projects in the company's service area.
"Our central Maryland communities benefit every day from the extraordinary work of so many organizations dedicated to making a positive impact on quality of life in the region," said Alexander Núñez, BGE's senior vice president of regulatory and external affairs. "Through the annual Green Grants Program, BGE empowers those organizations to pursue an even bolder sustainability vision for local land, water, and air. We are honored to partner once again with a diverse group of people who share our deep commitment to protecting natural resources and forging a path toward a cleaner future for all."
Green Grants applicants must be located in BGE's geographic service area and prospective projects must fall into at least one of BGE's environmental focus areas: conservation, education, energy efficiency, pollution prevention, and community engagement. Applicants must be a 501(c)(3) non-profit with a board of directors, and must meet additional criteria to be eligible for a grant.
Non-profits may submit applications online. The application deadline is May 15.
BGE's parent company, Exelon Corporation, has been included on the Dow Jones Sustainability Index for 13 consecutive years. Together, Exelon and its subsidiaries committed as part of a 2012 merger to maintaining an average of $7 million in annual charitable giving in Maryland over 10 years. The BGE Green Grants Program is a significant part of that commitment.
Last year, 69 Maryland non-profits were awarded more than $300,000. BGE has awarded nearly $2 million since it launched the Green Grants Program in 2013.
