BALTIMORE (Sept. 16, 2019) – BGE is now accepting applications for the 2019 Bright Ideas Teachers' Grants program. All kindergarten through 12th-grade in-classroom teachers within the BGE service area that focus on innovation, science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM), the environment or energy efficiency are eligible to apply at www.bge.com/giving. Applications must be received by Oct. 31, 2019.

Eligible teachers can receive a grant of up to $500 for in-classroom use to fund eligible projects. The grant program launched in 2017 and has awarded a total of $43,000 to over 90 teachers. Some previous winners include Mary Moss @ J. Albert Adams Academy in Annapolis, Md., which built a miniature recording studio that encourages creative problem-solving techniques, and Hillcrest Elementary in Catonsville, Md., which used the grant funds to make a weather station that allows students to check rainfall totals and log daily temperature changes.

"At BGE, our education efforts targeting students, educators and non-profit organizations are an important part of what we do," said Valencia McClure, vice president of governmental and external affairs and corporate relations for BGE. "We believe that education is a critical component to the success of the individual and society as a whole and it is something that we strongly support in a multitude of ways, like our education grants and community-based outreach programs."

Since its founding in 1816, BGE has partnered with Maryland communities to enhance our neighborhoods. Through the use of shareholder dollars, BGE supports programs that deliver measurable and sustainable impact in the areas of energy efficiency, the environment, education, economic and community development, and emergency response and safety. Annually, BGE provides $1 million for education programs across its central Maryland service area through its charitable contributions programs.
