​BALTIMORE (Dec. 2, 2019) – BGE is now accepting applications for its Emergency Response and Safety Grants program. This is the eighth year for the program which supports nonprofit emergency response and public safety organizations throughout BGE's service area. To date, BGE has provided nearly $2.5 million to 398 emergency response organizations, which share BGE's commitment to the safety of central Maryland residents. Grants of up to $10,000 are available for eligible 501c3 organizations. Applications are available online at BGE Emergency Response and Safety Grants, and all applications must be submitted by Jan. 15, 2020.

BGE presented $272,000 to last year's 65 grant recipients who were formally recognized at an event held at the Arbutus Volunteer Fire Department in Baltimore County.  In addition to supporting the emergency responder community in Maryland, BGE provides training for fire, police, 911 centers and emergency management organizations who routinely work around utility equipment.  BGE is recognized for its own emergency response record, ranking among the top utilities in the nation for rapid response to gas emergency calls and in working to prevent damages to energy equipment.
