BGE Customers Experience Improved Reliability in 2021; Second Lowest Outage Rate in BGE History

The average length of outages has dropped by 52 minutes since 2011.

BALTIMORE (Feb. 21, 2021) — BGE customers experienced improved reliability because of the company’s commitment to providing quality electric power in 2021. Ongoing investments in electric infrastructure upgrades, adoption of innovative technologies, and the continued dedication of BGE employees have combined to reduce the average length of a service interruption has by 52 minutes (37 percent) since 2011.

In 2021, the average number of interruptions experienced by customers (.68) was the second best rate in BGE's history, compared to 2017's all-time low of .63. Since 2010, the number of electric outages has decreased 45 percent and outage length has been reduced by 37 percent.

BGE invested nearly $1.2 billion in infrastructure improvements and operations and maintenance of the company's electric system in 2021. Since 2014, BGE has invested $13.8 billion in improving and operating and maintaining both the gas and electric systems serving our customers.

The company continues to share best practices and resources with its Exelon sister utilities: Atlantic City Electric, ComEd, Delmarva Power, PECO and Pepco.
