Page Content
The average length of outages has dropped by 52 minutes since 2011.
BALTIMORE (Feb. 21, 2021) — BGE customers experienced improved reliability because of the company’s commitment to providing quality electric power in 2021. Ongoing investments in electric infrastructure upgrades, adoption of innovative technologies, and the continued dedication of BGE employees have combined to reduce the average length of a service interruption has by 52 minutes (37 percent) since 2011.
"At BGE, we are laser-focused on improving our strong foundation of reliable and safe energy service for our customers in central Maryland.” said BGE Chief Operating Officer Derrick Dickens. "As we continue on our Path to Clean journey, the investments we make to power a cleaner and brighter future will also pay off in a more robust energy delivery system.”
In 2021, the average number of interruptions experienced by customers (.68) was the second best rate in BGE's history, compared to 2017's all-time low of .63. Since 2010, the number of electric outages has decreased 45 percent and outage length has been reduced by 37 percent.
BGE invested nearly $1.2 billion in infrastructure improvements and operations and maintenance of the company's electric system in 2021. Since 2014, BGE has invested $13.8 billion in improving and operating and maintaining both the gas and electric systems serving our customers.
The company continues to share best practices and resources with its Exelon sister utilities: Atlantic City Electric, ComEd, Delmarva Power, PECO and Pepco.
