BALTIMORE (September 25, 2018) – BGE has announced the 69 nonprofit recipients of its annual Green Grants for environmental stewardship. The grants support environmental initiatives across BGE's central Maryland service area and bring the company's six-year total of Green Grants support to nearly $2 million.
"BGE takes great pride in supporting organizations that make meaningful differences in preserving our environment," said Alexander Núñez, senior vice president of regulatory and external affairs for BGE. "These nonprofit groups are stellar examples of advocacy in action and are key partners in our efforts to power a cleaner and brighter future for our customers and communities."
BGE's commitment to environmental sustainability aligns with the goals of its parent company, Exelon Corporation, which has been named to the Dow Jones Sustainability North America Index for 12 consecutive years. Together, Exelon and its Maryland subsidiaries committed as part of a 2012 merger to maintaining an average of $7 million in annual charitable giving in the state over ten years. The annual BGE Green Grants program is a significant part of that commitment.
The BGE Green Grants program provides awards ranging from $1,000 to $10,000 for projects in conservation, education, energy efficiency and pollution prevention. The application process is open to 501c3 nonprofit organizations located in BGE's central Maryland service area that are committed to making a positive environmental impact.
Applications for BGE's Green Grants are reviewed by an external committee of community stakeholders. For more information on the BGE Green Grants program, visit bge.com.
