BGE CEO Calvin Butler named one of Maryland’s Most Admired CEOs by The Daily Record

BALTIMORE (Oct. 4, 2019) – Calvin G. Butler Jr., CEO of BGE, has been named to The Daily Record's 2019 list of Most Admired CEOs, an annual awards program that recognizes talented business and nonprofit executives throughout Maryland for their leadership and vision.

Butler is one of only two CEOs honored this year in the category of private companies with more than $500 million in revenue. He has appeared on the Most Admired CEOs list once before, in 2015. Honorees are selected based on professional accomplishments, community service, and letters of reference submitted by co-workers, board members, and community leaders.

"At BGE, the driving force behind our success—in both exceeding our customers' expectations and supporting the community—stretches far beyond my office to every corner of the company," said Butler. "In honoring me, The Daily Record is affirming the extraordinary value of our 3,200 employees' dedication to putting customers first, their commitment to working safely and positively impacting the communities we serve, and their passion for innovation. I'm grateful to accept this award in celebration of their work, and I'm humbled to do so alongside respected leaders from other Baltimore-area anchor organizations."

Butler has been CEO of BGE since 2014. Under his leadership the company has invested more than $9.6 billion to improve the energy delivery systems that serve 1.25 million electric and 680,000 natural gas customers in central Maryland. Service reliability for those customers is currently at an historic high. In addition, Butler's focus on and advocacy for diversity and inclusion has transformed the way BGE does business in profound ways that continue to benefit customers, employees, and the local economy. Most prominently, the percentage of BGE's spending with diverse suppliers has doubled in Butler's five years as CEO. During that time BGE has supported Baltimore-area communities with nearly $25 million in charitable contributions and more than 100,000 employee volunteer hours.

"Our Most Admired CEOs have gained the respect and admiration of those around them. They are making a positive impact on the lives of others, particularly through mentoring," said Suzanne Fischer-Huettner, publisher of The Daily Record.

Butler will be honored along with the other 2019 Most Admired CEOs at an event on Nov. 5. More information is available at
