BALTIMORE (May 1, 2017) – Baltimore Gas and Electric Company (BGE) employees engaged the community and extended the spirit of National Volunteer Week (April 23-29) throughout the month of April by participating in 55 company-sponsored community service projects throughout central Maryland. In total, more than 300 employees logged 1,000 volunteer hours.
"BGE is committed to the local community and I am so grateful to the BGE volunteers who lent their time, talent, and support to causes they care about in our community," said Valencia McClure, vice president of governmental and external affairs and corporate relations for BGE. "Employee involvement in local charities and civic organizations continues well beyond National Volunteer Week and has been a staple of our company throughout its existence."
Some highlights from volunteerism during the month of April include:
National Volunteer Week is an annual, nationwide celebration of people working to improve their communities through volunteer service. BGE and its parent company Exelon recognized National Volunteer Week by empowering employees to design their service projects and recruit others to participate. Projects focused on education, environmental stewardship, diversity and inclusion, and community enrichment.
In addition to BGE, National Volunteer Week included employee-led service projects from across the Exelon family of companies including: ComEd in Illinois, Constellation in Maryland, Delmarva Power in Delaware, Pepco in Washington D.C., PECO in Pennsylvania, Atlantic City Electric in New Jersey, and Exelon Generation and Exelon Business Services Company in the Midwest, Mid-Atlantic and Texas.
BGE and its employees are committed to enhancing the quality of life for its customers and their families in communities the company serves throughout central Maryland. In 2016, BGE employees logged more than 20,000 hours volunteering with nonprofit organizations across the service area.
