CEO Calvin Butler to participate in national Men of Courage program launch
BALTIMORE (Jan 18, 2016) — Employees of Baltimore Gas and Electric Company (BGE) are celebrating the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. by participating in community service activities in and around Baltimore. The company is also playing a role in the national launch of the Men of Courage program, a Ford Company initiative to celebrate the accomplishments of African American men with the goal of strengthening communities and creating positive social change. For the program launch, BGE joins Ford and the 100 Black Men of America to convene a group of regional leaders, including BGE CEO Calvin G. Butler, Jr., for a daylong forum at the Reginald Lewis Museum.
A BGE team has also joined veteran-led nonprofit organization The 6th Branch for their fifth annual MLK Day of Service, when volunteers will work on clean-up projects in East Baltimore. BGE volunteers will also help organize donated clothes and toys at the Salvation Army of Central Maryland.
“We always seek opportunities to partner with organizations that share our mission of improving lives in our region by meeting critical needs,” said Valencia McClure, BGE’s director of communications and corporate relations. “The Reverend Martin Luther King Jr. stood for change, so the holiday in his honor is a fitting time for us to engage in projects that can make a difference in our communities.”
BGE and its employees are committed to strengthening the communities the company serves throughout central Maryland. In 2015, BGE employees, friends and family logged more than 22,500 hours volunteering with more than 211 different community organizations that work to enhance the quality of life for Maryland residents.
