BALTIMORE (April 13, 2015) — Employees from across Baltimore Gas and Electric Company (BGE) are celebrating National Volunteer Week (April 12-18) by participating in nearly 30 employee-led service projects throughout central Maryland and the Baltimore and Washington, D.C. metro area. These projects include cleaning up parks and other public spaces, planting trees, maintaining the Chesapeake Bay Oyster Gardens, serving meals to people struggling with poverty and helping rebuild homes.

"Whether it’s through employee volunteer opportunities or charitable giving, BGE is proud to have a long history of empowering our employees to volunteer with organizations that have a positive impact on the communities in which BGE serves," said Calvin G. Butler Jr., BGE’s chief executive officer. "Our employees are strongly dedicated to giving back to communities throughout central Maryland. I am proud of our employees for their hard work and commitment, not just throughout National Volunteer week, but through their community service efforts year-round."

Examples of BGE’s National Volunteer Week projects include:

April 13 (Baltimore) – Bowl painting for annual fundraiser at St. Vincent de Paul

National Volunteer Week is an annual, nationwide celebration of people working to improve their communities through volunteer service. Each year, BGE employees organize community service projects for the company’s 3,200 employees, family members and friends to participate in throughout April.

BGE and its parent company Exelon recognize National Volunteer Week by empowering employee volunteers to design their service projects and recruit others to participate. This year, employees across Exelon will participate in more than 150 community service projects in April. Projects will focus on education, environmental stewardship, diversity and inclusion, and community enrichment.

In addition to BGE, National Volunteer Week will include employee-led service projects from across the Exelon family of companies including: ComEd in Illinois, PECO in Philadelphia, Constellation in Maryland, and Exelon Generation and Exelon Business Services Company in the Midwest, Mid-Atlantic and Texas.

Since its founding nearly 200 years ago, BGE has played an integral role in working with Maryland communities to address economic development, public safety, civic issues and other initiatives that help enhance our neighborhoods. Through the use of shareholder dollars, BGE supports programs that deliver measurable and sustainable impact in areas of education, the environment, community development and arts and culture.

BGE has committed to maintain charitable giving of an average of $7 million per year in Maryland, including BGE’s service area, for the next 10 years. BGE employees gave more than 25,000 hours of time and talent as board members, coaches, emergency responders and volunteers to support hundreds of community nonprofit organizations in 2014.
