BGE Employees to Restore Parks, Waterways in Support of Earth Month

BALTIMORE - (Apr. 13, 2018) Employees from BGE will take part in a national network of Earth Month celebrations tomorrow, Apr. 14, joining the Student Conservation Association's (SCA) '60 Projects for Earth Day' initiative.

BGE employees will participate in stream clean-up activities, invasive species removal and planting in Herring Run Park, a 375-acre woodlands area located in northeast Baltimore City. The BGE team will join members of the park's conversation advocacy group and college students from around the region to help preserve one of the city's oldest urban hiking and environmental research areas.

"BGE takes great pride in powering brighter futures for our customers throughout the year," said Valencia McClure, vice president of governmental and external affairs and corporate relations for BGE. "Environmental conservation is a big part of our philosophy of giving back, and today's projects are just a few examples of that commitment to stewardship and sustainability."

Exelon employees in Baltimore, Chicago, Houston, Philadelphia and Washington D.C. will participate in SCA-related beautification projects to honor the organization's 60-year anniversary. Collectively, the one-day effort across five cities will result in the removal of an estimated 5,000 pounds of debris from waterways and lakefront areas, 125,000 linear feet of enhanced waterfront and trail space, and restoration of 600,000 square feet of natural habitat.

This event is a part of BGE's longstanding commitment to community support, powered by its year-round 'Energy for the Community' program. In 2017, more than 1,500 BGE employees logged more than 22,000 volunteer hours with nonprofit organizations throughout central Maryland, and pledged more than $1.26 million to 400 charitable causes through BGE's annual employee giving campaign.
