Company joins Nissan and BMW to provide thousands in discounts to electric vehicles
BALTIMORE (May 15, 2018) – Nissan and BMW are offering BGE customers special incentives that can save thousands of dollars on the cost of certain all-electric vehicle (EV) models. In addition to the manufacturer incentives, customers could also qualify for up to $7,500 in federal tax credits and $3,000 in Maryland excise tax credits.
This offering is yet another of BGE's efforts to provide new and innovative services and options for customers across the company's service area.
"Electric vehicles are a key factor in Maryland meeting its clean air and water quality goals, in addition to being cheaper to operate and maintain than gas-powered vehicles," said Rodney Oddoye, vice president of customer operations and chief customer officer for BGE. "These rebates provide a great opportunity for BGE customers to make the switch and receive the benefits of driving electric."
Nissan is offering BGE customers a $3,000 rebate off the Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) on the 2018 LEAF, which starts at $29,990. This offer is available from Nissan North America Inc., through June 30, 2018, or while supplies last. To qualify for the savings, customers must bring a copy of this flyer and show their BGE utility bill to participating Nissan dealerships.
BMW is offering BGE customers a $10,000 incentive off the best negotiated purchase price of a new all-electric BMW i3 or BMW i3s through July 31, 2018. To redeem the incentive, customers should bring their BGE bill and a completed BGE customer form to their local dealership.
BGE offers an EV electric rate that provides a price incentive for owners who charge their vehicles during times when demand for electricity are lower. This rate varies based on the time of day (lower during off-peak hours and higher during peak hours), updates seasonally and applies to all electricity usage associated with the customer's account.
As part of the company's efforts to advance electric vehicle technology across Maryland, BGE and its sister-utilities DPL and Pepco are among the signatories of a proposal before the Maryland Public Service Commission that would create a Statewide Electric Vehicle Portfolio with 24,000 chargers, making Maryland home to the second largest electric vehicle charging network in the country.
