The company is sponsoring July 4th events and fireworks as part of its 200th anniversary
BALTIMORE (June 30, 2016) – This weekend, BGE customers around the region are invited to celebrate Independence Day at one of a series of events across its central Maryland service area. As part of BGE’s 200th anniversary recognition, the company will sponsor events including parades, fairs and fireworks displays in several counties and communities. BGE will also be a sponsor of the popular Fourth of July celebration at Baltimore City’s Inner Harbor.
“BGE’s bicentennial is a milestone for our entire region and we hope our customers will celebrate along with us,” said Valencia McClure, BGE’s vice president of governmental and external affairs. “In the BGE tradition, we’re supporting activities the entire family can enjoy.”

On June 11, 1816, artist Rembrandt Peale lit the first gas lamps in Baltimore at his museum on Holliday Street. Peale then incorporated the Gas Light Company of Baltimore on June 17, 1816.
