Company will host the Contest on its Facebook page from August 11 to September 8 and customers are encouraged to upload photos for a chance to win $500 for themselves and a matching grant of $500 for a local nonprofit
BALTIMORE (August 7, 2014) – In support of Baltimore Gas and Electric Company (BGE)’s Smart Energy Rewards program, the company has launched the “Summer Means Savings Sing-off” contest. BGE encourages customers to submit Facebook videos singing BGE’s catchy “Summer Means Savings” jingle that is featured in the program’s summer 2014 advertising campaign. Starting on August 11, customers 18 years of age and older can submit videos of their best rendition of the jingle.
Customers are encouraged to upload their videos to BGE’s Facebook page for a chance to win $500. In addition, BGE will present $500 to a local nonprofit organization of the winner’s choice. BGE will choose one winner per week throughout the four-week contest. Winners will be chosen based on the video with the highest number of votes received on Facebook at the end of each week.
“BGE’s ‘Summer Means Savings Sing-off’ contest is an opportunity to engage with our customers, highlight the benefits of the BGE Smart Energy Rewards program and support local nonprofits that our customers are passionate about supporting,” said David Milton, marketing and advertising director for BGE.
More than 800,000 BGE residential customers who have a smart meter installed at their home are eligible to voluntarily participate in BGE’s Smart Energy Rewards program. This program encourages customers to reduce their electricity usage from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. on designated hot summer days, known as Energy Savings Days, for a chance to earn a credit on their next electric bill. Customers can choose whether or not they want to participate in the program by finding simple ways around the house to reduce their electricity usage on Energy Savings Days. Customers will earn a bill credit of $1.25 for every kilowatt-hour of electricity they reduce from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Energy Savings Days compared to what they normally use on days with similar weather.
