BGE Makes Three-Year $105,000 Commitment to Support Outward Bound’s Police Youth Challenge

Successful Program Pairs Baltimore Police Officers with Baltimore City Youth to Change Perceptions and Build Trust

WHO: Baltimore Gas and Electric Company (BGE), Baltimore Police Department, Baltimore Chesapeake Bay Outward Bound School, and Students from Harlem Park Elementary/Middle School

WHAT: BGE has made a commitment to donate $105,000 over three years to support the Baltimore Chesapeake Bay Outward Bound School’s Police Youth Challenge. The mission of the program is to change the perceptions between youth and police in Baltimore City with a goal of having positive encounters that lead to sustainable change in the City. After the unrest in2015, Outward Bound, in collaboration with the Baltimore Police Department, expanded their program and financial support from BGE and other community partners helps to expand courses, purchase new equipment and provide additional training for staff.

WHY: Since our founding nearly 200 years ago, BGE has played an integral role in working with Maryland communities to address economic development, public safety, civic issues and other initiatives that help improve our neighborhoods and communities. Together with our customers, we actively partner with organizations that work to improve the quality of life in the communities where we live and work. We believe that BGE’s success is closely linked with the overall success of the community.

VISUALS: Photo and video opportunities will be available of police officers and youth interacting and taking part in teambuilding initiatives and some high element challenges in an outdoor setting. Interviews will also be available with Outward Bound, BGE, Police officials and students. Please note that this will take place regardless of inclement weather.
