Company chosen as an environmental steward in honor of Earth Day
BALTIMORE (April 20, 2018) – BGE has been awarded the 2018 Environmental Champion designation by Market Strategies International for dedication to supporting the environment and for the performance of environmental programs. To become an 'Environmental Champion,' an energy company needs to demonstrate its support for the environment by promoting clean energy and environmental causes, encouraging environmentally friendly fleets and buildings, and consistently seeking ways to protect the environment. Exelon's ComEd and PECO were also recognized by MSI as 'Environmental Champions.'
"BGE is honored to be recognized for promoting clean energy and implementing programs that help our customers manage their energy consumption," said Carol Dodson, vice president of support services for BGE. "Our company remains committed to environmental stewardship and to making business decisions that help power a cleaner and brighter future for our customers and communities."
This year's 43 environmental champions were selected based on achieving a top-quartile industry or top-two benchmark segment score, or being within 20 points of the top benchmark score and above industry average for environmental dedication.
BGE's commitment to environmental stewardship aligns with the goals of its parent company, Exelon Corporation, which has been named to the Dow Jones Sustainability Index 12 straight years. For seven consecutive years, BGE has been named an U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year. In addition, BGE's annual BGE Green Grants program helps local nonprofits fund projects or programs that demonstrate a commitment to the environment. Since 2013, more than $1.6 million in Green Grants have been distributed to hundreds of nonprofits.
BGE is part of the Exelon family of local gas and electric companies, which include Atlantic City Electric, ComEd, Delmarva Power, PECO and Pepco that share environmental best practices.
