The project will link Mt. Airy and Westminster gas systems, ensuring long-term reliable gas supply in Carroll County and surrounding areas
BALTIMORE (Oct. 3, 2014) – In an effort to enhance the safety and reliability of Baltimore Gas and Electric Company (BGE)’s more than 7,100 miles of natural gas pipeline, the company continually invests in the installation of new and reinforced natural gas infrastructure throughout central Maryland.
In February 2014, BGE began the installation of a new, reliable underground natural gas main between Mt. Airy and Westminster in Carroll County, in an effort to safely and reliably meet rising demand in the area. To date, the project is more than 50 percent complete, and the anticipated completion date is March 2015. This is an estimated time of completion, as conditions outside of BGE’s control, including inclement weather, can extend the completion target date.
BGE is working closely with the State Highway Administration in order to minimize the project’s impact on residents and commuters. In order to complete the project as quickly and as safely as possible, customers and commuters may notice an increased number of work crews and extended work hours. BGE has communicated directly with all property owners and residents in the 11-mile stretch of the project and will continue to do so until the project is complete.
When completed, this natural gas main will reinforce the existing natural gas systems, which currently serves nearly 55,000 customers in Carroll County and neighboring areas, by connecting the Mt. Airy and Westminster pipelines and introducing new sources of natural gas supply to these areas.
BGE remains committed to communicating updates on this project with customers. Residents and customers with questions should contact BGEPipeline@bge.com or call 1.800.685.0123 and reference the Route 27 Carroll County Natural Gas Reinforcement Project.
