BALTIMORE (July 24, 2015) – Baltimore Gas and Electric Company (BGE) crews have been working around the clock to restore service to customers who lost power following the thunderstorm, heavy rains and high winds that affected its central Maryland service area Tuesday evening. As of 9:00 am on Wednesday, BGE has restored service to approximately 43,000 customers, or 93 percent of the more than 46,000 customers who were affected. The vast majority of customers who lost power as a result of this weather system should be restored to service by late this evening. Any remaining work will be completed by early Thursday morning.
"Storms like this can damage power lines and other equipment, and safety is our first priority," said Steve Woerner, BGE president and chief operating officer. "We aim to have all our customers back in service while ensuring our crews are observing all the necessary precautions. We urge customers to also stay safe by staying away from downed wires and other damaged electrical equipment."
Customers should continue to report power outages as well as downed wires to BGE at 877.778.2222. BGE asks all customers, including those with smart meters, to report their outages. Mobile devices can also be used to report power outages via bge.com. Customers can find restoration updates on BGE’s online and mobile power outage map.
BGE also reminds customers using a generator during this time to follow manufacturer instructions and to locate the generators in well-ventilated areas.
