BGE Reminds Customers to Shop Maryland Energy Weekend

BALTIMORE (Feb. 15, 2019) – BGE customers who are in the market for new appliances can take advantage of Shop Maryland Energy Weekend to save even more on their purchases. From Feb. 16–18, customers can purchase ENERGY STAR® certified appliances without paying the state's 6% sales tax on select models. Shoppers can maximize their savings by combining the rebates regularly offered by BGE's Smart Energy Savers Program with discounts offered by retailers and manufacturers to celebrate Presidents' Day Weekend.

"The Shop Maryland Energy Weekend is a great opportunity for Maryland residents looking to replace outdated appliances and save money," says Eric Riopko, BGE Residential Energy Efficiency Programs Manager. "By shopping at select retailers participating in Presidents' Day sales and combining money saved with rebates from BGE's Smart Energy Savers Program, customers can save more. Plus, by increasing the energy efficiency of their homes, they'll be able to save even more in the long run."

During Shop Maryland Energy Weekend, select models of the following types of ENERGY STAR certified products are tax-free and rebated by the BGE Smart Energy Savers Program:

  • Electric clothes dryers
  • Clothes washers
  • Standard size refrigerators
  • Dehumidifiers
  • Programmable thermostats

As of March 31, 2019, BGE's Smart Energy Savers Program will no longer offer rebates on the following ENERGY STAR certified appliances:

  • $100 rebates on refrigerators
  • $75–$100 rebates on clothes washers
  • $50 rebates on electric clothes dryers

BGE customers are encouraged to take advantage of these offers before it's too late and to save even more by purchasing during this tax-free weekend. Rebate applications and all required documentation for these energy-saving products (purchased by March 31, 2019) must be received no later than May 31, 2019.

The programs also help to reduce peak demand and slow the growth in energy consumption to lessen the need for more power plants.
