Baltimore Gas and Electric Company (BGE) presented the Maryland State Fair & Agriculture Society, Inc. with a $10,000 grant to support the Maryland State Fair Scholarship Fund. The mission of the scholarship fund is to promote the growth of agricultural education programs.
"BGE is pleased to support the Maryland State Fair Scholarship Fund as it encourages students to develop skills that will deliver a measurable and sustainable impact on their communities," said Valencia McClure, BGE’s director of corporate relations and communications. "We believe that BGE’s success is closely linked with the overall health and success of the community."
Since its inception in 1879, agriculture education has been one of the Maryland State Fair’s top priorities. The Maryland State Fair Scholarships highlight and reward the accomplishments of youth, help them with their educational pursuits, and promote the importance of agriculture to Maryland, the country and the world.
"We are honored to be recipients of BGE’s educational grant," said Maryland State Fair General Manager D. Andrew "Andy" Cashman. "BGE’s generous gift will enhance the mission of the Maryland State Fair Scholarship program to encourage the growth of 4-H/FFA by providing a venue for youth to showcase their skills and educate the general public regarding agriculture, its related fields and its importance to our future."
The 2015 MY Maryland State Fair runs from Friday, August 28 – Monday, September 7. For a complete Schedule of Events, go to www.marylandstatefair.com.
