BGE Volunteers Fuel American Gas Association’s Giving Month

BALTIMORE (Dec.9, 2015) — In December, Baltimore Gas and Electric Company (BGE) is joining with the American Gas Association (AGA) to highlight charitable and volunteer activities as part of an industry-wide effort to underscore the importance of community involvement. Throughout the month, BGE employees will participate in a number of projects with nonprofit organizations across central Maryland. BGE and other AGA member companies will also support the giving campaign by using the social media hashtags #GivingMonth and #FuelingOurCommunities when promoting community initiatives.

“With winter weather and the holiday season, our community-based outreach at this time of year can particularly bring warmth and cheer to customers in need,” said Calvin G. Butler Jr., BGE’s chief executive officer. “We’re proud to be included in AGA’s campaign to help raise awareness of the contributions of natural gas companies and our employees.”

BGE’s holiday-themed giving activities kicked off with the annual Kennedy Krieger Festival of Trees, when employees decorated and donated a tree to raise funds for the Sarah’s Hope Homeless shelter. Employees have adopted more than 600 “angels” through the Salvation Army of Central Maryland, and will assist the organization with sorting and pack thousands of donations of toys, clothing and other items for area children. BGE volunteers will also partner with local organizations including the Ronald McDonald House, the Believe in Tomorrow Children’s House at Johns Hopkins and Christopher’s Place to serve meals.

The company also recently celebrated a successful United Way employee giving campaign that raised close to $850,000 for the central Maryland community through employee donations and company matching dollars.

This year, BGE employees, friends and family have logged close to 20,000 hours volunteering with more than 135 different community organizations, the equivalent of almost 9 years of full-time service. BGE executives and staff members also share their skills by serving as board members for 124 local nonprofits. To learn more about BGE’s charitable activities throughout the year, visit
