BGE Wishes Students and Teachers a Successful School Year and Encourages them to take Advantage of BGE’s Many Educational Initiatives

BALTIMORE (Sept. 5, 2017) – As students across central Maryland return to school,  Baltimore Gas and Electric Company (BGE)  reminds teachers, students and community organizations to take advantage of BGE's educational outreach efforts. These include grants, scholarships, workforce development and programs focused on science, technology, engineering and math (STEM). New this year is the company's Bright Ideas Teacher Grant program which will provide 20 teachers with $500 grants. The application period will open in October.

"At BGE, we believe that education is a critical component to the success of the individual and society as a whole, and it is something that we strongly support in a multitude of ways," said Valencia McClure, vice president of governmental and external affairs and corporate relations for BGE. "Not only do we provide resources that support community-based education-related programs and services, but BGE has its own education efforts targeting students, educators and non-profit organizations."

BGE provides $1 million annually for education programs across its central Maryland service area through its charitable contributions programs. The company has also provided a total of $288,000 to winners of BGE's energy safety programs for children: The Wires Down Video Challenge for electric safety and Captain Mercaptan Natural Gas Safety Contest.
