BGE and Employees Recognize the Contributions of Hispanic Culture during National Hispanic Heritage Month

BALTIMORE (Sept. 18, 2015) — In support of National Hispanic Heritage Month (Sept.15- Oct. 15) Baltimore Gas and Electric Company (BGE) will co-host activities that celebrate and promote an understanding of Hispanic culture. The signature event on Oct. 5 will feature keynote speaker Nicole Quiroga, general manager of the Telemundo affiliates in Washington, D.C., and Richmond, Va. The event is sponsored by the company’s Baltimore chapter of the Organization of Latinos at Exelon (OLE), an employee resource group that has also organized employee engagement and volunteer events throughout the month.

"It is important to BGE to acknowledge the rich array of cultures and backgrounds we see reflected in our employees as well as the communities we serve throughout central Maryland," said Alexander Núñez, BGE’s vice president of governmental and external affairs and executive sponsor of OLE. "Celebrating this mosaic makes us a better employer, a more effective community partner and a stronger business."

In addition to engagement at the business and civic levels, BGE provides ongoing charitable contributions and volunteer support to organizations that provide services to the Hispanic community, including the Latino Providers Network, the Catholic Charities’ Esperanza Center, the Casa de Maryland-Mi Espacio after school program and the Featherstone Foundation, in support of its signature computer literacy program, ‘Empowering Latinos: One Click at a Time.’

BGE contributes more than $3 million dollars each year to programs that improve the quality of life for residents of central Maryland, in the areas of education, the arts, the environment and critical human services. Approximately half of these contributions support programs that serve diverse populations. For more information about BGE’s corporate citizenship activities, visit bge.com
