BALTIMORE (Dec. 2, 2021) – BGE is urging local non-profits to apply for its Emergency Response and Safety Grants program. First responders are our customers and our neighbors, they risk their lives every day and BGE is grateful for their service and honored to support them in their selfless mission. BGE is committed to improving the quality of life for people in the communities where we live, work, and serve, and the Emergency Response and Safety Grants program is an important part of that commitment.
This is the ninth year for the program which supports nonprofit emergency response and public safety organizations throughout BGE's service area. To date, BGE has provided nearly $3 million to 533 emergency response programs. Previous recipients have used the grants for emergency equipment upgrades including thermal imaging cameras, fire hose replacements, and first aid stations. Grants of up to $10,000 are available for eligible 501c3 organizations. Applications are available online at BGE Emergency Response and Safety Grants, and all applications must be submitted by Jan. 14, 2022.
BGE presented more than $250,000 to last year's grant recipients. In addition to the BGE Emergency Response and Safety Grants, BGE provides free training for fire and police departments, 911 centers and emergency management organizations who routinely respond to emergencies in close proximity to utility equipment. BGE is recognized for its own emergency response record, ranking among the top utilities in the nation for rapid response to gas emergency calls and for working to prevent damage to energy equipment by third parties.
BGE plays an integral role in working with Maryland communities to address economic development, public safety, civic issues and other initiatives that help enhance our neighborhoods.
