BGE to Conduct a PeakRewards℠ Preseason Cycling Event in Advance of Summer Peak Demand Season

BGE has scheduled a preseason cycling event for participating PeakRewards customers to test system operations and customer communications ahead of the summer cycling season

BALTIMORE, May 13, 2014 – Baltimore Gas and Electric Company (BGE) today announced that in an effort to continually improve programs for customers, the company will hold a preseason activation event to test system operations and customer communications for its customers enrolled in its PeakRewards program in advance of the summer peak demand season. The preseason cycling event has been communicated to participating PeakRewards customers in advance of the event and should have minimal impact to customers since temperatures are expected to be mild and the event will take place between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., when many customers are less likely to be at home.

”Each year, BGE carefully reviews all aspects of the PeakRewards program in an effort to continuously improve system operations and communications between BGE and our customers,” said Carol Dodson, vice president and chief customer officer for BGE.

During the planned cycling event, participating PeakRewards customers are reminded that their central air conditioner (A/C) will be cycled up to their chosen level of cycling: 50, 75 or 100 percent.

In addition, customers enrolled in the BGE PeakRewards Electric Water Heater program will also be part of this preseason cycling event. During the event, customers will have power to their water heater interrupted and no additional hot water will be produced for the duration of the event. Neither PeakRewards A/C nor Water Heater customers will be able to override participation.

PeakRewards participants who have an email address on file will be automatically notified of cycling events by email. Participants can also sign up to receive event notifications by text message. To update contact information and notification preferences, customers should visit BGE.COM/MYACCOUNT. Participants may also check the PeakRewards Event Central website, BGEsavings.com/PeakRewardsEvent.

Together with BGE, more than 300,000 participating PeakRewards customers have helped reduce peak energy demand by approximately 420 megawatts since the program’s inception. That equates to the size of a medium power plant. Participants also received nearly $23 million in bill credits last summer for their voluntary participation in the program.
