Roadwork to take place in sections along Wilkens Avenue and S. Rolling Rd. through early fall
BALTIMORE (April 7, 2014) – BGE announced today that it will begin a project to upgrade the natural gas main located in Catonsville under Wilkens Ave. between S. Rolling Rd. to just past the traffic circle at Hilltop Rd. This safety and reliability project will begin in mid-April and is expected to continue through early fall 2014. BGE regularly installs natural gas pipeline reinforcements throughout the central Maryland service area in order to continue to meet customer demand for natural gas. The Wilkens Ave. gas main reinforcement helps serve customers in Catonsville and Arbutus in Baltimore County.
In order to minimize the impact on the surrounding community and normal traffic patterns, the construction is scheduled to take place outside of rush hours, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. Utility crews will be progressing in short segments, so Wilkens Ave. and S. Rolling Rd. will remain open for the duration of the project. There will be ongoing, temporary lane closures as crews access the section of gas main under the road surface. Traffic shifts will be clearly marked and road crews will direct traffic. Following the work, the disturbed lane of the roadway will be repaved by BGE.
In addition to the gas main reinforcement project along Wilkens Ave., BGE is continuing the process of modernizing the gas system nearby in neighborhoods in Catonsville and Arbutus. Information about these projects is available at bge.com/OperationPipeline.
BGE reminds motorists and pedestrians to be cautious in and around utility roadway work zones and “Respect the Cone Zone” for their own safety and the safety of BGE employees and contractors.
Periodic updates on the Wilkens Ave. Gas Main Reinforcment project will be available on the BGE website at bge.com/gasprojectupdate and the project team can be contacted directly at BGEpipeline@bge.com.
