BGE Completing Power Restorations Following Tuesdays Tornado and Storms

BGE monitoring and preparing for additional severe weather in forecast for Thursday

BALTIMORE (June 22, 2016) – Baltimore Gas and Electric Company (BGE) crews, with assistance from 20 two-person crews from its Exelon sister utility PECO in Philadelphia, continue to restore service to customers who lost power as a result of yesterday’s severe thunderstorms and a tornado that impacted parts of Howard County, Md. with winds speeds reaching 80 mph. The tornado traveled 13 miles and left a debris path 500 yards wide, knocking down numerous trees and wires. The storm system dumped significant rainfall throughout central Maryland, and included 60-mph wind gusts. As of 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, crews have made significant progress, restoring service to more than 49,000 customers or approximately 95 percent of customers who lost power during the storm. BGE expects full customer restoration later this evening. Restoration times may be slightly longer for small pockets of customers who sustained extensive damage.

As BGE continues to monitor the forecast for potential severe weather tomorrow, we would like to remind customers to report service interruptions or downed wires to BGE at 877.778.2222.
