BALTIMORE (Jan. 22, 2016) – Baltimore Gas and Electric Company (BGE) continues to monitor and prepare for an approaching winter storm that is expected to reach the BGE service area later today. Also arriving throughout the day today are more than 900 tree and overhead line contractors to augment BGE’s 3,200 employees currently mobilized for storm restoration. BGE crews and arriving external crews are setting up at service locations throughout the region.
“We routinely support major storm restoration efforts in other regions as part of a system that helps ensure that when our customers need assistance, we can call on the necessary resources,” said Rob Biagiotti, BGE vice president, customer operations and chief customer officer. “With the assistance of our Exelon sister utility, ComEd, and the many other utility workers who join our hard working BGE employees, we're ready to restore power as safely and quickly as possible.”
As BGE prepares, customers are also asked to be ready. Customers, including those with smart meters, should report power outages through BGE’s mobile website at BGE.com, or at 877.778.2222. Customers can find information on preparing for winter weather and other emergency events at the storm center on BGE.com, as well as storm preparation information and restoration progress via BGE’s social media sites on Twitter and Facebook.
Customers should also have flashlights with fresh batteries ready, charged mobile phones and devices, and a supply of bottled water and non-perishable food. Stay away from downed wires, damaged electric equipment, and trees or anything contacting electrical equipment. Always assume downed wires are energized, even if the power is out in the area. Report any dangerous conditions, including natural gas emergencies, to BGE immediately from a safe location at 877.778.2222.
