The gas meter relocation and/or installation of gas meter protection will occur at no expense to you.
Precision Pipeline Solutions is BGE’s approved contractor who will be reaching out to BGE customers to schedule the necessary appointments. After the appointments are set, PPS will conduct an inspection to relocate and/or protect gas meters and also complete the necessary meter protection work on behalf of BGE.
Please call PPS at 844-625-9996.
If you have a gas meter in your garage, you will need to be present for two appointments. (1) The first is a SITE SURVEY, to review with you the current and future outdoor gas meter location as well as the protection (bollard) installation necessary. (2) The second appointment is the WORK DATE to physically move the gas meter from your garage to outdoors and install a bollard. We will need access to both the garage to relocate the gas meter and your gas fired appliances inside the home or business.
If you have an existing outdoor gas meter, we are requesting an initial (1) SITE SURVEY to review the bollard placement and address any clearance issues with you. For the actual protective bollard work (2) WORK DATE, you will not need to be at your home or business while the work is occurring and the contract crew will not need to enter your home or business. You do have the option to authorize the bollard installation and waive the site survey if you have no questions or concerns regarding this work. If you wish to waive the site survey, please call PPS to confirm and we will conduct both the (1) site survey and (2) perform the work without the need for you to be home.
If you have any questions, please send an email to MeterProtection@BGE.com.
How do I know if my home is included in the Gas Meter Protection Program?
You will receive official BGE correspondence letters informing you of the meter protection work a few months before we begin work in a particular county and community. PPS will also be reaching out by phone and in some cases in person with customers who have been identified as requiring the meter protection work. If you receive the Gas Meter Protection letter from BGE and believe that your meter location does not require protection because it is not exposed to any vehicular traffic, please call PPS so we can determine if additional protection is required.
When will BGE be moving gas meters in my community?
Please refer to our map to see when BGE is estimating to start work in your county.
Will the gas meter in my home (not located in the garage) be included in this program?
Meters located in areas not exposed to vehicular traffic are not within the scope of the Gas Meter Protection Program. If you would like your meter relocated, please contact BGE at 1-800-685-0123 or submit a request online.
Why is it necessary (in some cases) to install bollards in my driveway?
To start, bollards should not be placed directly over gas or electric service lines because the bollard could impair BGE’s access to the lines. Also, depending on the configuration of your home and driveway, bollard placement in your driveway provides maximum protection to the gas meter installed outdoors.
