Construction Updates

On-site construction began in May 2020 and will take approximately 24 months to complete. At that time, some work will remain, including the removal of the existing Hawkins Point and Sollers Point terminal stations.

Throughout the construction of the Key Crossing Reliability Initiative project, BGE will regularly provide updates on project progress:

On-site construction activities week of 1/20/2020

  • Installing temporary pile guides and piles for Tower 2 foundation
  • Installing temporary pile guides and piles for Tower 3 vessel collision protection structure
  • Installing formwork at Tower 3 foundation and Tower 5 pedestal/vessel collision protection structure
  • Performing splicing for Tower 2 production pile
  • Loading out production piles for Tower 3 vessel collision protection structures
  • Laying out pile locations and driving piles with vibratory hammer at Tower 1
  • Mobilizing barges in water and relocating as needed to get work completed
  • Monitoring vibration activity from impact hammer used during pile driving

On-site construction activities week of 1/13/2020

  • Installing pile guides and piles for Tower 4 vessel collision protection structure
  • Removing temporary pile guides from Tower 4 vessel collision protection structure
  • Installing formwork, preparing pile plug, and placing rebar cages at Tower 3 foundation
  • Performing splicing and loading out piles for Tower 3 vessel collision protection structure
  • Loading out production piles for Tower 4 vessel collision protection structures
  • Performing pre-tie procedure on Tower 5 vessel collision protection pile cages
  • Mobilizing barges in water and relocating as needed to get work completed
  •  Monitoring vibration activity from impact hammer used during pile driving

On-site construction activities week of 1/6/2020

  • Relocating equipment to Tower 4
  • Installing temporary pile guides and piles for Tower 4 vessel collision protection structure
  • Preparing pile plug and placing rebar cages at Tower 3 foundation
  • Placing concrete at Tower 5 foundation
  • Performing splicing and loading out piles for Tower 4 vessel collision protection structure
  • Installing and driving pile with vibratory hammer at Tower 1
  • Mobilizing barges in water and relocating as needed to get work completed
  • Monitoring vibration activity from impact hammer used during pile driving
