Construction Updates

On-site construction began in May 2020 and will take approximately 24 months to complete. At that time, some work will remain, including the removal of the existing Hawkins Point and Sollers Point terminal stations.

Throughout the construction of the Key Crossing Reliability Initiative project, BGE will regularly provide updates on project progress:


On-site construction activities week of 3/31/2021

  • Installing formwork at Tower 3 foundation and Tower 2 pedestal
  • Removing formwork at Tower 6 pedestal
  • Installing vessel collision protection rebar at Tower 3 foundation
  • Loading out rebar and anchor cages for Tower 3 and Tower 4
  • Installing pedestal formwork and placing pedestal concrete at Tower 1 foundation
  • Mobilizing barges in water and relocating as needed to get work completed
  • Monitoring vibration activity from impact hammer used during pile driving

On-site construction activities week of 3/24/2021

  • Installing temporary pile guides at Tower 2 protection structures
  • Installing formwork at Tower 3 and Tower 4 foundations
  • Installing foundation rebar at Tower 3 foundation
  • Performing cathodic protection and grounding at Tower 2 foundation/pedestal and Tower 3 foundation rebar
  • Placing concrete at Tower 1 and Tower 2 foundations
  • Mobilizing barges in water and relocating as needed to get work completed
  • Monitoring vibration activity from impact hammer used during pile driving


On-site construction activities week of 3/10/2021

  • Preparing pile plugs and installing rebar cages for Tower 5 vessel collision protection structure
  • Setting precast for Tower 3 foundation planks
  • Performing cathodic protection and grounding at Tower 5 vessel collision protection structure
  • Installing formwork at Tower 3 foundation
  • Installing foundation rebar and performing rebar cathodic protection and grounding at Tower 2 foundation
  • Installing rebar at Tower 1 foundation
  • Mobilizing barges in water and relocating as needed to get work completed
  • Monitoring vibration activity from impact hammer used during pile driving
