On-site construction began in May 2020 and will take approximately 24 months to complete. At that time, some work will remain, including the removal of the existing Hawkins Point and Sollers Point terminal stations.
Throughout the construction of the Key Crossing Reliability Initiative project, BGE will regularly provide updates on project progress:
On-site construction activities week of 4/13/2022
Performing cathodic protection and grounding at Tower 3 and Tower 4
Preparing concrete and installing fender system at Tower 2, Tower 3, and Tower 4 structures
Installing metal materials at Tower 3 structure
Installing avian mitigation tools at Tower 3, Tower 4, and Tower 5
Installing davit cranes at Tower 2, Tower 3, and Tower 4
Installing waring signs at Tower 2, Tower 3, Tower 4, Tower 5, and Tower 6
Mobilizing barges in water and relocating as needed to get work completed
On-site construction activities week of 4/6/2022
Performing cathodic protection and grounding at Tower 3 and Tower 4
Preparing concrete and installing fender system at Tower 3 and Tower 4 vessel collision protection structures
Performing pile coating repairs at Tower 2 structures
Installing metal materials at Tower 4 and Tower 5 structures
Installing davit crane at Tower 6
Installing solar panels and batteries at Tower 2, Tower 3, Tower 4, Tower 5, Tower 6, and Tower 7
Mobilizing barges in water and relocating as needed to get work completed

Performing cathodic protection and grounding at Tower 2, Tower 3, Tower 4, Tower 5, and Tower 6
Installing fender system and anodes at Tower 3 and Tower 4 structures
Installing fencing at Tower 4 foundation and vessel collision protection structure
Installing metal materials at Tower 3, Tower 4, and Tower 5 structures
Installing davit cranes at Tower 2, Tower 3, Tower 4, Tower 5, and Tower 6
Installing FAA lighting at Tower 1, Tower 6, and Tower 7
Mobilizing barges in water and relocating as needed to get work completed
