Construction Updates

On-site construction began in May 2020 and will take approximately 24 months to complete. At that time, some work will remain, including the removal of the existing Hawkins Point and Sollers Point terminal stations.

Throughout the construction of the Key Crossing Reliability Initiative project, BGE will regularly provide updates on project progress:

On-site construction activities week of 10/13/2021

  • Installing formwork at Tower 3 and formwork ledger at Tower 4 vessel collision protection structures
  • Installing topping rebar at Tower 3 and Tower 4 vessel collision protection structures
  • Performing cathodic protection and grounding on Tower 4 vessel collision protection structure
  • Installing fender system for Tower 2
  • Pulling hardline and conductor across the river from Tower 7 to Tower 1
  • Installing conductor spacers between Tower spans
  • Performing pile coating repairs at Tower 3 vessel collision protection structure
  • Mobilizing barges in water and relocating as needed to get work completed
