Construction Updates

On-site construction began in May 2020 and will take approximately 24 months to complete. At that time, some work will remain, including the removal of the existing Hawkins Point and Sollers Point terminal stations.

Throughout the construction of the Key Crossing Reliability Initiative project, BGE will regularly provide updates on project progress:

On-site construction activities week of 7/14/2021

  • Performing pile cutoffs at Tower 4 vessel collision protection structure
  • Performing pile re-strike at the temporary trestle installation at Tower 4
  • Installing temporary trestle at Tower 3
  • Pouring concrete pile plugs at Tower 3 vessel collision protection structure
  • Preparing pile plugs and installing rebar cages at Tower 4 vessel collision protection structure
  • Setting precast concrete segments for the pile caps at Tower 4 vessel collision protection structure
  • Performing cathodic protection and grounding at Tower 4 vessel collision protection structure
  • Placing concrete, removing bulkheads, and preparing for second concrete placement at Tower 5 vessel collision protection structure
  • Loading out and installing tower sections for Tower 3 and Tower 4
  • Mobilizing barges in water and relocating as needed to get work completed
  • Monitoring vibration activity from impact hammer used during pile driving

  • Performing pile cutoffs at Tower 4 vessel collision protection structure
  • Performing pile cut off at the temporary trestle installation at Tower 3
  • Preparing pile plugs and installing rebar cages at Tower 4 vessel collision protection structure
  • Setting precast concrete segments for the pile caps at Tower 4 vessel collision protection structure
  • Placing concrete pile plugs at Tower 3 vessel collision protection structure
  • Installing formwork, walkways, and bulkheads and placing concrete at Tower 5 vessel collision protection structure
  • Loading out and installing tower sections for Tower 6
  • Mobilizing barges in water and relocating as needed to get work completed
  • Monitoring vibration activity from impact hammer used during pile driving

  • Performing pile cutoffs at Tower 4 vessel collision protection structure
  • Removing temporary pile guides from the temporary trestle installations at Tower 4
  • Preparing pile plugs and installing rebar cages at Tower 3 vessel collision protection structure
  • Setting precast concrete segments for the pile caps at Tower 3 vessel collision protection structure
  • Performing cathodic protection and grounding at Tower 3 vessel collision protection structure
  • Installing formwork at Tower 5 vessel collision protection structure
  • Loading out and installing tower sections for Tower 2
  • Mobilizing barges in water and relocating as needed to get work completed
