BGE now offers a special time of use rate for EV charging. This new customer pricing plans provides the benefit of reduced electric bills to customers who charge their EV during off-peak hours. In order to enroll, you must have an eligible smart Level 2 charger.
If you drive 15,000 miles per year, you could save approximately $121 per year by charging your electric vehicle off-peak hours on the Vehicle Charging Time of Use Rate instead of the Standard Schedule R rate.
With the Vehicle Charging Time of Use Rate, BGE residential customers who own electric vehicles and have a Level 2 smart charging station can place their electric vehicle charger on a time-of-use rate while the rest of their house remains on a standard electric rate. The benefit to EV owners would be significantly lower electric costs for charging their vehicles during off-peak hours (nights and weekends).
Excludes weekends and holidays, which are billed at the off-peak rates. Holidays include New Year’s Day, President’s Day, Good Friday, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas and the following Monday if any of these holidays fall on a Sunday. Actual savings may vary. The rates shown are distribution and supply rates. Rates are subject to change and are approved by the Maryland Public Service Commission.
The enrollment process includes two easy steps:
Step 1: Identify your eligible smart Level 2 charger and complete step 1 to accept BGE Vehicle Charging Time of Use Rate terms and conditions
Step 2: Once you have completed the BGE enrollment, follow the external link to visit your charger's website to confirm your enrollment by agreeing to additional terms and conditions for sharing your EV charging data with BGE. Please ensure the address on both BGE and your charger’s website match.

*Actual savings may vary. Calculations are made assuming car efficiency of 27 kWh/ 100 miles and a savings of 3 cents per kWh by switching from BGE’s Standard Offer Service Schedule R Rate to BGE’s Standard Offer Service Vehicle Charging Time of Use Rate. Charging your vehicle during peak hours on the Vehicle Charging Time of Use Rate may result in higher charges compared to the Standard Schedule R rate. Rates are subject to change throughout the pilot with the approval of the Maryland Public Service Commission.
