BGE now offers a special time of use rate for electric vehicle (EV) charging. This new customer pricing plan provides the benefit of reduced electric bills to customers who charge their EV during off-peak hours. In order to enroll, you must have an eligible charger.
If you drive 15,000 miles per year, you could save approximately $120 per year by charging your electric vehicle during off-peak hours on the Vehicle Charging Time of Use Rate instead of the Standard Schedule R rate.
With the Vehicle Charging Time of Use Rate, BGE residential customers who own electric vehicles and have a charging station can place their electric vehicle charger on a time-of-use rate while the rest of their house remains on a standard electric rate. The benefit to EV owners would be significantly lower electric costs for charging their vehicles during off-peak hours (nights and weekends).
Sign In to Check Eligibility
The enrollment process includes two easy steps:Step 1: Sign-in and identify your eligible charger or eligible electric vehicle and accept the BGE Vehicle Charging Time of Use Rate terms and conditions
Step 2: Once you have completed the enrollment on bge.com, follow the external link to visit either your charging manufacturer site or your vehicle manufacturer, which will be located on the evPulse site. From there, confirm your enrollment by agreeing to the manufacturer terms and conditions for sharing your EV charging data with BGE. Please ensure the address on both your BGE enrollment and either your charging manufacturer site or your vehicle manufacturer (evPulse site) match.
The following vehicle manufacturers are available through the evPulse site: Tesla, Hyundai, Kia, Toyota, and Lexus. More manufacturers may be added in the future so please check back.
Step 3: Once you complete your enrollment through either your charging manufacturer or the evPulse site, your enrollment should be complete. You should be enrolled within 1-2 business days. Under rare circumstances, your enrollment confirmation could take up to 10 business days.
Note: If you are currently enrolled in any of BGE's existing Time of Use rates, you will need to un-enroll from that rate before completing your enrollment for the Vehicle Charging rate. Please call us at 800.685.0123 to unenroll from your current TOU rate.
Note: For now, JuiceBox customers should use the EV JuiceNet and NOT the JuicePass app to continue participating in EVsmart programs. In September 2023, customers will receive a notification from JuiceBox to migrate to the new JuicePass application and should switch to the JuicePass application at that time.
Eligibility restrictions:
Excludes weekends and holidays, which are billed at the off-peak rates. Holidays include New Year’s Day, President’s Day, Good Friday, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas and the following Monday if any of these holidays fall on a Sunday. Actual savings may vary.
*Actual savings may vary. Calculations are made assuming car efficiency of 27 kWh/ 100 miles and a savings of 3 cents per kWh by switching from BGE’s Standard Offer Service Schedule R Rate to BGE’s Standard Offer Service Vehicle Charging Time of Use Rate. Charging your vehicle during peak hours on the Vehicle Charging Time of Use Rate may result in higher charges compared to the Standard Schedule R rate. Rates are subject to change throughout the pilot with the approval of the Maryland Public Service Commission.
