We understand that a power outage can make this already challenging time even more difficult. When adverse weather affects our service area, BGE is prepared. If you experience a power outage or need to report a downed wire, please call 877.778.2222. BGE crews are following CDC guidance for social distancing and personal protection while working as safely and quickly as possible to restore power. If you own an electric vehicle, you’re already experiencing the fuel savings that comes with making the switch from a gas-powered vehicle to an electric-powered vehicle. BGE provides even greater savings when you upgrade your home charger from a basic Level 1 (120v) model to a Level 2 (240v) charger. Through BGE's EVsmart Program, you may be eligible for a $300 rebate when you install a qualified Level 2 charger for your home.
Upgrading to a Level 2 charger allows you to charge your vehicle significantly faster than with a standard charger. It also allows you to better control (and even schedule) when your EV charges by using an optional smartphone app. Customers with Level 2 smart chargers can also enroll in a Vehicle Charging Time of Use rate to see increased savings on their electric bill.
Now is the time to upgrade your EV charger. Any BGE customer who lives in a single-family home (either attached or detached) with secure home Wi-Fi (hotspots not sufficient) is eligible to participate. Customers must agree to share charging data with BGE. Rebates are limited and are available while supplies last.
See eligibility details.
1. Purchase a qualifying charger from the retailer of your choice and have it installed at your home by a licensed electrician.
Level 2 chargers require installation of a 240-volt outlet. It is recommended that you hire a qualified electrician who is familiar with EV charging equipment. Installation charges will vary, but can range from $200 to $1,000.* If your electrical panel needs to be upgraded, contact BGE to start this process. Costs and timing for panel upgrades may vary and takes approximately two weeks for completion.
Apply for the rebate. Fill out the online rebate application below or email the PDF application to
Before you can apply for your EVsmart rebate, BGE must verify that your EV charger is connected to Wi-Fi and your EV energy usage data is visible. In some cases, customers may require a Wi-Fi extender to increase the range of their Wi-Fi signal to reach their garage or other location of their EV charger.
Note: If you are applying for a Tesla-compatible charger, you must first create an EVPulse account.
3.Receive your rebate in approximately 4 to 6 weeks. Your rebate will arrive by mail once your application has been submitted, received and approved.
Save time. Level 2 chargers can fully charge an EV in 3 to 8 hours, compared to standard Level 1 chargers, which require 11 to 20 hours. Each additional hour with a Level 2 charger adds about 20 miles of driving range.*
Save money. Only Level 2 chargers are eligible for the $300 residential charger rebate. The Vehicle Charging Time of Use rate allows customers with eligible Level 2 chargers to charge their EV during off-peak hours for added savings on their electric bill. Plus, you may be eligible for an additional rebate from the state of Maryland for your smart charger.
Gain control. Level 2 chargers work similarly to smart thermostats. When plugged in, you can potentially control when your EV starts and stops charging through your charger’s app on your smartphone.
