What are Energy Savings Days?
BGE Energy Savings Days are scheduled when electricity demand is expected to be particularly high. This typically occurs on hot summer weekdays when both homes and businesses are using higher amounts of electricity than normal. When you participate in an Energy Savings Day, you help reduce the need for additional power plants, keep down the overall cost of electricity, and ease the burden on Maryland's electricity grid as our state's population continues to grow – while earning summer bill credits!
BGE anticipates that there can be up to three Energy Savings Days each summer season.
You'll get an alert. You'll receive a phone call, email, text, or mobile app alert before a BGE Energy Savings Day alerting you of the upcoming event.
Reduce your use.Simply use less electricity during the event which typically occurs between 2pm and 6pm on an Energy Savings Day and earn $1.25 in bill credits for every kilowatt-hour saved compared to your normal use.
Earn rewards.Within a few days, we'll notify you by phone, email, text or mobile app to let you know how much you saved!
There are many ways to reduce your electricity usage during an Energy Savings Day, but the most impactful savings tip is to raise the temperature on your thermostat by 3-4° and use other ways to stay cool. BGE recommends setting your thermostat at 78ºF. Customers should exercise discretion and consider health impacts when reducing electricity usage.
